I'll be honest with you...I'm not the most flamboyant person. I certainly do know how to put an outfit together. But, my style is more reserved, and classic, and tends to lean towards a more monochromatic sense of coordination and self-expression. I'm not a big fan of colourful clothing. I know it's odd and absurd, but I've never been the person who would walk into a store and buy a yellow dress on purpose. Yellow and orange are my least favourite colours. When I'm shopping online or in person, I always go for grey sweaters, black graphic T-shirts, or cardigans -- you know, the basic stuff.
Over the past year, I've been making an effort (maybe about 2% of an effort) to purchase more colourful and vibrant outfits. Or at least, something other than black and grey. I believe my shopping choices (and this goes for everything else in my life as well) are often curated around my personality -- I'm confident, for the most part. Still, I also don't want to walk into a room and be stared at because of a bright pink floral maxi dress I have on. So, I guess you could say that I'm not that outgoing or confident (which is something I'm working on). Since my personality is a bit more on the quiet side (sort of), I enjoy dressing up and looking impeccably stylish, but I also don't like being the centre of attention.
However, I am trying to be better and bolder this year with my outfit choices, and with spring around the corner, it's a perfect time to experiment with colour and prints. With that said, I looked into what fashion 'it girls' and influencers are wearing this spring, and it seems the colour BLUE is in fashion. Anyone and everyone who's a stylist, influencer or fashion girlie, is leaning towards a very popular, more softer shade of blue for spring. I'm still not sure if it's 'Sky Blue' or 'Baby Blue' we're all obsessed with, but pastels are in for spring, and everyone can't get enough of it.
Speaking of pastels, I'm not so much a fan of the colour blue, but as a Spring girlie (my birthday falls in May), my favourite colour for Spring will have to be a softer hue of purple that I'm so fond of which is Lilac. And if you've browsed through my site long enough, you can see that I incorporate this shade in many tags and links across my website. I just love this colour so much -- it's strong and bold, yet soft and delicate. It stands out, but it's also not too overpowering. There's something so gentle and refined about the colour lilac. It kind of reminds me of myself. At least, I aspire to be gentle and refined.
As a black woman, I believe pastels are great to play around with during the springtime. Sky blue, lilac, mint green, mauve, etc., certainly pop off beautifully on darker skin tones. Like this blue ribbed strapless top from Princess Polly.
Styling with brighter hues is always a daring choice. Whether it's sky blue, lilac, or any other pretty pastel colour you'll be wearing this spring, here's a curated list of some of my favourites to get your shopping started. Enjoy!

Interesting piece 😊. I have quite a bit of pastel clothing myself, I’ll make sure to wear them this spring.
